The analysis of the Master Plan of Póvoa de Varzim (Plano Director Municipal) shows the purpose of guiding the growing phenomena
of the city, strengthening, reformulating and filling in the urban spaces already built, establishing identifiable shapes and limits, capable of opposing the disorderly development of the surroundings. Therefore, the aim should be a "unitary requalification" of the radioconcentric image of the town.
The definition of the limits, the possible hierarchies, the clear determination of the access areas and the connections that may be established, form the kernel of the urban restructuring in the outer edge. Thus, the building intends: to keep the arrangement of the built spaces of the town, showing the obvious limit between what is internal and external; to establish an urban element – “gate”– which stresses the access to the future avenue; to use “intra walls” a quarter’s urban typology; to create an impression through the global and monochromatic treatment of the façades; to define one direction
in order to create an asymmetry in the pre-established urban plan
of the area. |
